OHPP Tournament Trail
Kicks John Marshall off Tournament Trail

Press Release: July 29, 2006
Two club members talk John Marshall into fishing the OHPP Tournament trail. The trail rotates between Old Hickory Lake and Percy Priest Lakes and averages 16-20 boats per tournament.
The June 15th tournament was a night tournament on Percy Priest Lake. John Marshall enters his first tournament as a member fishing as a single angler against two man teams and wins. He also takes big fish honors with a 6.78 largemouth and a trophy for big fish of the month.
The OHPP is currently voting to kick John Marshall off the tournament trail for being a guide, in which 90 percent of his trips are crappie guided trips. Besides being a guide, he is also a tackle dealer and lure manufacture. Guided trips only consist of about 10-15% of the year due to also fishing tournaments.
For the last three seasons the OHPP Trail has had a total of 5 guides fishing the organization, with a total of three guides fishing part of the 2006 season. To the best of our knowledge John Marshall was the first of the group to win one of their events and the guide subject now becomes an issue. Since they have previous participation by guides, and no rules about guides or part time guides, would their be issues  if John Marshall had finished 2nd or had one no money at all. The question still remains.
Questions John Marshall was asked when issues came up!
Do you as an angler/guide think it fair to compete in tournaments?   Yes, I entered the OHPP as a single angler competing against two man teams.  I am 90% Crappie Guide and guide 15% of the year. Why would a bass angler be afraid of a Crappie Guide.

Do you have a problem when a club says no Guides?
No, I abide by all rules and try set the best example possible to other anglers, upcoming anglers and our young people watching the sport.

Would you have a problem if OHPP says no more tournaments from this moment on?   That is a great question. I would stay home, but tournament director would have to contact me directly. What your hearing is hear say and talk between anglers. It is good press talk and most of the time it is from the inexperienced anglers. I have 6 years experience helping run tournaments and most clubs do not make it when they have a habit of changing rules during a season.

What is your opinion on the OHPP now that these issues have arrived?   I have stated in their forum before that they had a great group of guys and I would be glad to help them in any way that I can to make their organization better

I was told that OHPPBTT was made up of “Weekend Anglers”. No pro’s or semi pro’s of any kind.

Since TeamSkeeter is a “Professional Guide” is this fair to everyone else?

No, It is not fair for the "Weekend Anglers"!! Why allow some pro to come in and clean house? I don't think many people will attend our tournaments knowing that a "PRO" or "Semi-Pro" is going to walk away with everyone's money. Sorry, "Team Skeeter" but I think you need to move on to other "BIGGER and BETTER TOURNAMENTS".

"Team Skeeter" had said he was in another club that changed the rules and it dropped there membership from 35 boats down to 7 or 8. Could it have been they were just tired of donating there money to a pro fishermen and wanted to change there rules ?
We're a small group of weekend anglers that don't have the opportunity to spend as much time on the lake guiding and acquiring as much info as he does. According to his profile on his web site he has won other tournaments elseware. Fishing with us is easy money and he laughs all the way to the bank!!!! If he is such a good guide and tournament fishermen than he should join B.A.S.S. and fish the elite circut or the F.L.W. and take there money not ours.
